Men & Pole Fitness
Historically, the art of pole dancing began in the 1920`s in America. Dancing companies would travel around the country and perform in tents. The poles that were holding the tents up began to be used as a prop by the dancers to enhance their routines. The pole dance then evolved from the tents to burlesque and bar environments during the 1950`s and took on a more erotic form of entertainment. Using a pole to perform any routine involves a blend of gymnastics and dancing therefore pole dancing is regarded as a performing art. In the Chinese culture for example, the pole is used within the cabaret and circus environment for artistic and acrobatic stage performances.
There are different types of poles available; there is a standard pole usually made of brass or hollow steel, or a spinning pole which is similar to a standard pole but with the use of ball bearings enables it to spin around whilst it is being used. There are also many poles that are available for the home, including polished chromed steel, stainless steel, brass, powder coated or titanium coated or acrylic glass.
Nowadays pole dancing has been recognised as a beneficial form of fitness and exercise. It is an enduring workout which requires a degree of strength, flexibility and stamina. The pole workout increases body strength and suppleness which builds and develops the body`s core as it uses the body`s own weight as resistance whilst toning and defining muscles. Using a pole as a form of exercise provides a good aerobic workout which will help as part of a weight loss regime and will strengthen, build and tone the upper and lower body. Many men have been enjoying the benefits of pole fitness over the years and traditionally it was men that would use the pole for their acts on the stage or circus. In countries such as Australia, England and America there are men`s pole fitness classes, as well as a growing number of competitions. In China, the National Pole Dancing 2007 competition was won by a man, Zhang Peng a 23 year old dance instructor.
Pole fitness is a fun and enjoyable way of keeping fit. It can also be used for many entertaining events such as parties or hen and stag dos. Trying to think of unique and individual party ideas and themes can be difficult, so incorporating pole fitness into any event would elevate any occasion. As well as pole fitness there are plenty of other stag do ideas including adventure weekends, quad biking, clay Pigeon shooting, canoeing and white water rafting.
